In the Jimmy Buffet ballad Holiday, Buffet sings the lyrics

The weather channel girl
With her perfect weather curl
Is talking cold, cold, cold.
You can’t get out of bed
You can’t remember what you’ve said
You’re feeling old, old, old.

Is it fever or depression
Anger or aggression
What’s the remedy
We’re not talking rocket science
The answer to your questions
Very plain to see.
QUIZ: (Choose the correct answer.)

(Look for the answer in this story.)

Okay, so maybe those of us in Southern California or Florida don’t get cold, cold, cold. But if you’re anything like me, a “single, divorced mother with two kids”, (mine are of the high school variety), You can feel old, old, old.

And as we get older, things can and do start happening to our bodies. Things that we may put on the back burner because everyone, including the cat, comes first. There is a growing number of single moms and dads, putting their lives in jeopardy because they lack health insurance. And why? Because of the cost involved in obtaining it. They just don’t go to the doctor.

Nothing is more frightening than a family with puberty stricken kids and a menopausal mom-If you can imagine!

So what’s the point of all this? Well, first, the answer to the Jimmy Buffett riddle is, of course, C) Health Insurance. We need it! But can we afford it? M.O.M.S. believes we can! You’ve got to remember that "Together We Can & Will Make A Difference" As a group, we are pretty darn big, no make that huge, group. That’s a popular word in the vocabulary of insurance companies. The bigger the group, the lower the rate. The bottom line, when it comes to health insurance and groups, size does matter. I need to know how many of you would be interested in participating in M.O.M.S. group coverage plan. Isn’t it about time we had some security in our lives and that of our children?

I’m researching the available programs the we qualify for as a group. If you are interested, or have friends that need insurance, please use the link and send me an E-mail. In the meantime, I will continue to research and put into place the M.O.M.S. Single Parent Health Coverage Plan.

Oh, and by the way, when we all get coverage, then it will be time for that holiday-and while we’re there, let’s all toast to our health!

A Note From The Editor:

Patti Law is a single mother in the Encinitas California area. After experiencing what she was afraid might be the signs of cancer or some other dreaded disease, she realized that this was a wake up call! She has no health insurance. And we all know what multiple tests and doctors visits does to the checkbook. Patti diagnosed herself as needing health insurance, in the event that this illness was serious. Well, as it turned out, Patti’s "illness: is serious. MENOPAUSE! I think that’s pretty serious stuff anyway. A shot of estrogen has her feeling like she’s back among the living. Thanks Patti for taking the time to "make a difference."

If you have questions, need a shoulder to cry on or want to share a good day, M.O.M.S. is here for you. Remember ...
