Contact your local DSHS they will have knowledge of many programs offering assistance. I would check with local churches, the salvation army, united way any group affiliated with children, check with your children's school if they are of school age, many times just mentioning to someone that you are in need will bring the help you desire.
My Mom is a retired Kindergarten teacher.....When she was teaching she knew of a family or more who were in need during the Holidays and we would secretly adopt them, we prepared a meal all the Holiday traditions and my Mom would find out (very carefully) what the children were wanting for Christmas and we would do our best to provide it for them ...we all pitched in and as we grew older we were able to provide for more, it is the best to give without receiving...A few days before Christmas we would drop everything off in baskets on the front door steps of the homes and we would ring the bell and leave, we parked as so they could not see us but honestly as I write this I am crying because the looks on the families faces especially the Mom's and Dad's are burned into my memory and those moments forever changed me....For My Family was a Family of Six and both parents were teachers so we were on a limited budget and to see what we could and did give to others without anything in return including recognition, just reaffirms what I have always told my kids...to give of themselves and of their hearts....The power of "Paying it forward" is so strong....I will pray for you and your children to find what you are seeking and that you will continue in the spirit of giving and pay it forward when you are able. I wish you a very merry Christmas!
